The Name's High Priest
The Music of Nicholas Taylor
Worked through-out the decades (1977-2010...) in New York City and collected many samples of music and photographs. A musical "studio rat" in situations such as performing turntables with Max Roach and Fab Five Freddy at the Kitchen in NYC in '84 and also being in "Gray", a sound oriented band with Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1979-1980, acquiring musical skills along the way. The link-ups to the left are "sketches of songs". Varying historical tracks, and loop-like tones, some with harmonies and others as just plain loops compiled and also some experimental works dot this musical/pictural landscape. A selection of pieces that are important to building of future melodies. Gray broke up and I started recording on 1/4 inch reel to reel machines 1982. Much musical experimentation into the late hours especially was pursued.
Take camera to the Mudd Club in 1979. Some of the images in this series you will see on the right. An image and a track are layed out on each page to juxtapose the many different genres that make up my artistic impulses. The image on the right, after a night at the Mudd Club, Jean-Michel Basquiat put masking tape on face and started snapping away!
